Fausto Coppi was Italy’s greatest cyclist. Coppi’s held as one of if not the greatest cyclists that ever sat on two wheels. He pedalled his way through solo victories - something rarely seen in modern cycling - and captured the imagination of many future cyclists, such as, Britain’s Tom Simpson and Belgium’s grandmaster Eddy Merckx.
When I watched the animated film ‘Belleville De Rendez-Vous’ I instantly recognised the inspiration behind the main character’s persona. It was Fausto Coppi through and through! The nose and the sparrow-like posture was in no doubt evident.
